Grasping The Extraordinary Power Of Now

If you’re into personal development or self improvement, you’ll have some feel for the importance placed by many experts on being focused in the here and now. Ekhart Tolle’s ‘The Power of Now’ extols the virtues of what might be described as presence of mind. However, Tolle, together with other personal development ‘gurus’, doesn’t either adequately explain why ‘Now’ is so important or, indeed, offer practical advice on how to be more ‘all here’.

First off, now is the only place and time that actually exists – the past is something you learn from (although psychology confirms that most of us don’t learn but subconsciously live there) and the future is something that will only transpire the way you want if you’re prepared to be focused and effective in the present. In addition, quantum physics suggests that the universe only exists now – and it proves that universal energy responds to our energy – now. In other words, it is crucial to be present. Being present will give you ‘presence’ – the true sign of all successful people.

The big problem is that normal people are not present. Our subconscious is focused in our childhood, whilst our conscious mind is plagued by useless thought – thoughts tending towards negative self-doubt and worry. Consequently, it’s hardly surprising that research suggests that the normal person is just one percent present. If this is the case, you are hardly likely to elicit much response from a waiting universe.

In short, it is imperative that you become more present. But how? Being present means being focused on where you are and what you’re doing now. Many people, according to lots of surveys, are not focused on what they’re doing, preferring instead to do what they’re doing whilst thinking that they don’t like what they’re doing! In addition, most of us haven’t understood the simplicity of what focus is. Focus means paying attention – nothing more. It means tuning into the reality of the moment, using the only mechanism that’s available to you to do this – your five senses. These are your only interface with the world. Yet we pay no attention to what our senses are telling us, we’d prefer to let our subconscious put its own spin on reality. We all use our preconceived ideas to make sense of now and, as a result, make utter nonsense of it.

You’ve got to re-learn how to pay attention. We were all experts at it when we were young children. The effortless way to relearn is to set some time aside to re-focus one sense at a time. I suggest that you find somewhere quiet to sit tomorrow morning. Close your eyes and notice how all the sounds around you become more defined. They’re not, of course, you’ve just started paying more attention. Notice what you’re feeling in your body – feelings that you would not notice when you’re normally inattentive. Next morning you might spend a few minutes noticing how your body’s responses when you breathe. Five minutes each morning will considerably affect your ability to pay attention throughout the day – you’ll be more focused, more present, more in tune with what’s going on and the opportunities the moment offers.

And you can start measuring your presence by reference to your results. You’ll find yourself more responsive to situations and people that they might otherwise fail to notice or avoid completely, you’ll be more open to doing things that you wouldn’t otherwise do. And, on the basis that the one thing that has your life stuck in a rut is the fact that you rarely do anything different, bold or courageous, this can only be a good thing. Through your presence you will not just be open to new opportunity – you’ll actually create your own opportunities. The net result is that, at least, your life moves forward – in the right direction. At most, your life will never be the same – you will achieve effortless and measurable, happiness and success.

You Are Not Separated From The Universe

There is nothing outside of you that is not yours. Due to the fact that we perceive reality in the way of linear time, we cannot understand this reason; to describe it in words is rather exhaustively.

Many of the difficulties that people experience during this period of evolution are because of a mistaken belief – a belief that we are independent beings, not related to our planet, with animals and trees, not related to each other and sometimes even separated from ourselves. The Western view of things claims that we are independent from our house and the surroundings. The idea that we can exist independently from our environment is an illusion. And this illusion effects detrimentally on our health and wellbeing. It is the belief in this illusion makes it possible to universal epidemic of pollution, strengthens racial hatred breeds greed and many other diseases of society.

Our planet is changing so rapidly that it has a profound effect on our relationships with people and the environment. While advances in technology have added a lot to our lives, they are simultaneously disconnected us and our surroundings. In pursuit of the technology we have forgotten the ancient wisdom of the interrelationship of all living and nonliving matter on our planet. We forgot that connected with all living inside a pulsating universe – the universe that sings about life and the ripple voltage of the spirit. We forget that everything and everyone has a living energy.

Our ancestors all over the world did not share the belief of that independence. Their worldview was based on the fact that none of us exists independently from the other creatures of the sun, moon, soil, flowers, oceans, and the myriad of creatures and things that make this a reality, what we know. Any creation is akin to other beings, nothing lives in isolation.

In modern Western culture in the usual manner of interaction with the world around us is a sense of independence and isolation. We usually identify ourselves with our body and do not remember the other parts of our personality. Most of us identify with our physical bodies. We mentally draw a boundary line which coincides with the skin.

But in fact, not only that defines us. Many unexpectedly identify themselves with things outside the physical body. Sometimes we feel the children the part of ourselves, or even things that we own (people risk their lives to save property from the burning house, as now he identifies himself with these values more than with his body). We can identify ourselves with clothing. For many people, the way how they dressed is consistent with their view of how they want to see themselves. From how the person behaves in a car caught in a traffic jam, it is clear that he identifies himself with the car.

However, if you have time to focus on that, you probably remember the moment when that sudden feeling of unity with the world around you. Maybe you have discovered the beauty of unity with the sunset shining on the night sky. Or may have experienced joy and cleansing feeling of interaction with the universe, listening to the sound of the surf on the coast. These experiences remind us of the truth that was obvious to this life – we are the one with everything around us. We are also associated with mountains, sea, clouds and stars, as well as with our body. We are manifestations of pure energy, always produces its manifestations, and always coherent. Everything that exists and will exist within us. The universe is our extended body. It is very important to return to this view of reality, the view which is internally as familiar as our relationship with the mother when we were in the womb.

Your Home Encompasses A Set Of Intersecting Energy Fields

Your home is not only the composition of the materials compiled to create a refuge and comfort. Every cubic centimeter, it does not matter whether it solid or seemingly empty space is filled with endless vibrating energy fields. Set of undulating energy fields intersect inside and outside the space at home. There are a myriad of different areas inside your home. In addition to purely physical structure of your home and physical objects within it have the emotional energy and a lot of spiritual and ethereal energy, constantly moving inside the house.

Physical environment in your home – its location relative to the sun and wind, surrounding vegetation, landmasses and river routes, as well as the manner by which the house is connected to the environment all this affect the energy fields in your home.

The materials from which the house is made and things in it, the chemical elements that make up the material also influence the energy fields. For example, the energy of the pine is more agile and radiant than hard, landing energy of the oak. Location of raw materials also affects the energy. For example, the oak, which grew in the forest, has an energy that differs from the energy of an oak grown on plantations. A method of processing materials (either manual or factory) also affects the energy field. In addition, the color of the walls and furnishings, the type of lighting, air quality, odors, room size and distance of the house removed from the land – all these are physical factors that affect the flow of energy.

Your thoughts and feelings, thoughts and feelings of your family and guests are constantly changing the energy of living space. Emotions have their own power structure, which depends on the emotions that have been previously. Let’s say you entered a room where there was a dispute, and felt the density of the air. This residual energy field after a strong emotion, dedicated to the dispute.

Psychometrics is based on the idea that human feelings, thoughts, and especially lay their imprint on the physical objects with which an individual comes in contact and his entourage. All thoughts and feelings present inhabitants, as well as feelings and thoughts of former residents, affect the emotional energy in your home.

Thought-form, personality and deeds of those who lived on the land even before the house was built, also affect the emotional energy in the house. Every physical object inside the home is the emanation (radiation) of the people who owned the object, as well as the energy of the object’s creator.

Buildings constructed at the burial site, are influenced by the emotional energy surrounding the gravesite. The structure of housing can also affect the emotional energy. For example, high ceilings elevate mood, and low can cause a sense of emotional depression. Every part of your home highlights and reveals the emotional energy fields.

Your house has an aura, just as you are. On the aura of the house affect the physical form and physical objects in the home, emotional, thought-forms of what is happening in it, penetrating the field of spiritual energy around the house. The field of spiritual energy is produced by people, trees, earth and the surrounding landscape. Main earth energy, called the field lines, also affects the spiritual aura of the house. (The field lines are created by the electric current passing through the Earth’s crust along faults and voids.) But the most important thing that affects the spiritual energy of your home is love, give and receive inside the walls of the house.

You Cannot Be Separated From The House

You are inseparable from the house where you live, just as inseparable from the air you breathe. Your house is not only a continuation of your thoughts and feelings, but in a more general sense – it’s “you.” You are not less house than the body. Both of them are external manifestation of your inner energy fields.

In the deepest sense of home there is a mirror of your consciousness. Just as the body is a symbol of the internal state, and the house reflects your inner state. Even doctors, following these traditions are beginning to recognize that there is a connection between mind and body and the body may be a mirror image of consciousness. If a person has a sore throat and he lost his voice, it shows that he wanted to say something, but could not. Emotional difficulties are manifested in the body.

House is the mirror of your inner being as surely as the body. For example, water may represent emotions. Clogged plumbing could mean littered emotions. Break through plumbing means overflow with the emotions. You can change minds, changing the energy in the house. Windows are your eyes looking at the world around you. Even a simple washing of the windows, with the intent to clearly see your way in life, affects the clarity of your life.

Your home has consciousness

Not only each part of the world has a conscience, but your house has a consciousness. Homes, as well as people feel the way we treat to them. They are living spirits in them, which are supported by respect and love that we feel for it. Without this care, they become lifeless and inanimate: the spirit is removed, and they are just physical structures, which can neither support us nor help us. Your home is a growing, creative being. It can be closed in itself, or open. It has cycles just like everything in nature.

You can communicate with your home. The house can be your ally or enemy. House cares about you and wants to support you. Your home not only reflects you, your feelings and interests, but on a deeper level, interacts with you, and through it you can both grow. Your home is growing with you. Respect and attention with which you keep the house, can awaken an ancient and once again revived the spirit of the bottom of your soul that will help home to feel, this power can heal you from the very center of the heart and soul. Understanding of the three principles forms the basis, starting from which you can clean and enhance the energy in your home.

Cleaning The House. House As A Living Organism

Our house is a mirror image of ourselves. It reflects our interests, our beliefs, our doubts, our spirit and our passion.

House – is more than comfortable and safe space. This is a place where you can meet face to face with the universe. This is the point of intersection of time and space, which takes the energy or reflecting it.

Your home can be a place of renewal and hope. It can be a haven in which you find shelter and rest during times of change, an oasis of calm among the hustle and bustle. Homes can bring healing and renewal. Your home may help to get stronger and heal not only you; it can give the harmony with which you and everyone who visits it will be able to climb to a higher spiritual level.

It is very important to give our living space a sense of cosmic order – to bring integrity to our homes, the balance between our essence and flow of the universe. Our homes can provide shelter and hope for a renewal in the future, which may be difficult, but certainly happy. They can become a sacred space where we can remember who we are and why we are here on this planet at this time.

There are pathways of energy in the world. Through harmony and clean energy in your home you can open up the boundaries of your living space, so that your house will become a place of concentration of energy. In turn, your home will radiate this energy in the form of love and light to the rest of the world and the universe.

House as a “living being”

In order to understand how to clean energy in the house, it is important to understand how our living space interacts with the life around us. To do this, it is important to understand the three basic principles that underlie all the techniques of purification of the space:

1. Everything is made up of constantly changing energy.

2. You are connected with the world around you.

3. Everything has consciousness.

That is, your home is a growing energy which has consciousness. It has the “essence” with which you can communicate, as a living organism it can protect and heal you and your family, if you understand and respect its life. You can learn to interact with your living space to create a balance and harmony with all around you with energy.

All life is energy. We are dissolved in the ocean of energy. Energy flows around us and a constant stream of moving, ever changing in time and space. Physicists recognize that the atoms and molecules are always in constant motion. Beneath the surface of solid objects that exist in a linear river of time, there is a reality in which energy is turned in a whirl, creating a form, and then dissolves and combines with the flow around.

Peace is a dance of two opposing, but harmonious forces of the universe: yin and yang, ordinances, and waking. The world around us and within us is the interaction of these forces and energies in a fancy weave. Energy is replenished by the flowing and envelops us, not confined to past and future. We participate in endless, but structured in a certain model of the eternal drama of light and darkness. The basis of this movement is the cosmic order. There is an innate harmony inherent in life, similar to the wave energy propagation and spiral “form” pulsating electrons, harmony behind and beyond existence

Energizing Yourself When You’re Simply Feeling Flat

There are days when we just feel energy-less – not necessarily dejected, disillusioned or depressed, just plain flat, energy-less and disinterested. And even though I’ve been teaching my many personal development clients how they should start the day by switching on their minds – and I do the same myself – sometimes, within no time at all, one ends up feeling, well, ‘I wish I was somewhere else!’ or ‘I just don’t feel like doing this!’ I’m not talking about things that go wrong with our day, I’m simply referring to what one client described like this: ‘I get into my office, full of the joys of spring, I sit down at my desk, open up my PC and, suddenly, I’m in this kind of daze.’

What is it that takes the wind out of our sails so effortlessly? How come we can be so fired up for the day ahead and then suddenly so flat? Actually, the answer is all too simple – flat is your default state of mind. Yeah, believe it or not, research explains that only the very rare person is tuned in sufficiently to actually be adequately focused and attentive to get through the normal day effectively. As if that weren’t enough, research also confirms that, left to its own devices, our minds slip towards negativity. It’s how we’re hard-wired – and all the personal development or self improvement in the world won’t personal development or self improvement isn’t going to change the hardware.

But what personal development will change is the programs that we run. Again, if we do nothing, our subconscious mind is content to watch reruns – to keep running the same old dysfunctional programs that make our daily lives mundane, uninteresting, repetitive and uninspiring. You need to get control of the remote control! Personal development will teach you how to switch channels and enable you stop watching the same old nonsense. It will teach you how to tune in to reality TV – the real reality of the here and now.

Sadly, this feeling of mindless-couldn’t-give-a-damn simply invades our minds by default. And that will forever, for the rest of our days, be our default way of thinking unless you cultivate a mindful, focused, tuned in state of mind – and not only have you got to do this each and every day, you’ve got to find some mechanism to make sure that you can call on that state of mindfulness when you find that you’re slipping down the inevitable slippery slope towards mindlessness – because, as sure as night follows day, you’ll start slipping and sliding the moment you take your eye of the ball.

OK, I may be mixing my metaphors, between computers, televison and slippery slopes – but you get the picture? Our mind is always waiting to mug us – we’ve got to be on the alert as much as is humanly possible.

Practical Personal Growth Tips: Taking A Breather

Once the day gets going it’s very easy to get swept away by the routine, the urgent (not necessarily the important), the latest minor crisis or, most common of all, useless thought. Even if you have started your day properly, it is simply so easy to become submerged and revert to our default state of unfocused mindlessness.

So, for a start, what does starting your day properly mean? Well, none of us leave the house physically unprepared for the day ahead. We shower and dress ourselves – shaving or applying the odd dab of make-up as appropriate! However, we unwittingly leave the house each morning mentally unprepared for what lies in store. Starting the day properly means ensuring that, before leaving home, you’ve taken the appropriate action to clear your mind and focus your energy. I suggest approximately ten minutes mental preparation first thing. Find somewhere quiet to sit and focus on your five senses – one sense at a time. This will enable you focus on what is really happening as distinct from the subconscious programs that otherwise run your life – the latter being your default state of mind.

OK, let’s say that you’ve got your day off to the perfect start, you’re switched on, focused, alert and primed for action. Small things like a delayed train, like getting stuck in traffic, like somebody asking you to do something unexpectedly – so many little things can knock us off balance. To say nothing of the big things! It can be so easy to slip and slide effortlessly into mental oblivion as the day unfolds. What we’ve got to do is make sure that, during the day, we pause to catch our breath – literally.

Age-old wisdom emhpasizes the opportunity that our breathing affords us to clear our mind of useless nonsense and distraction and, in doing so, focus our energy. So, here’s a simple, quick and entirely practical tip – because, after all, you have to breathe anyway! Take a few moments – moments is all that’s required – during the day to turn your attention to the reality of your body as you breathe in and out. Pay attention to what it feels like to breathe, how your body reacts with each breath that you take, how the air passes through your right, left or both nostrils. Give thanks for the reality that you are alive and breathing. Focus on nothing else for these few moments. If the hassles or useless thoughts of the moment start crowding your mind, take three deeper breaths to focus your mind. As you breathe, realize that whatever might be doing your head in right now will be completely forgotten in months, weeks, days or even hours. Understand that, with an focused, alert and ready mind, anything is possible.

Your Personality: You’re Not Your Personality

The behaviour of normal people is rarely appropriate. How could it be! Because normal behaviour is generated automatically – you don’t have to think about it, you just react – by your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is highly efficient at creating your reactions – it is this ability that has got us so far as the ‘superior’ species. But, as we’ve already said, normal behaviour is rarely appropriate – because your subconscious mind is constantly focused on the past – your childhood years – and it uses this out-of-date ‘stored knowledge’ to dictate your current automatic behaviour. With information that is way past its sell-by date being used to enable you react, how could today’s behaviour be appropriate to what is actually happening now?

How could it be appropriate when you understand that the normal person is forever in this automatic reactive mode? Unfortunately, it’s just the way we’re built. If you’re having a good day, your behaviour can actually be mildly effective – that’s in comparison to how effective you could actually be had you taken the trouble to focus on what’s actually happening and act, rather than react. But even then, normal people only have good days now and again. It’s the normal not-too-bad days that have consigned your life to that mundane, repetitive, not-too-bad life – you know, the one where really great things rarely happen, the one where you don’t like your job or the one where your relationship has gone off the boil – the ordinary stuff of the normal life. And on those routine not-too-bad days, normal behaviour varies from midldly in-effective to inappropriate to off-the-wall outrageous. People losing the head in rush hour traffic, people bullying their subordinates at work or who play with their workers’ lives. Husbands who beat wives, wives who beat husbands – or just the normal not-so-bad inertia of ‘I wish I was somewhere else’ and all the anxiety that that brings with it.

The problem is, however, that we confuse our behaviour with who we are – a criminal mistake that leads us into recrimination, guilt, frustration, anxiety and even more inappropriate behaviour. You are not your behaviour. How could you be? Your behaviour is automatically created by your personality – all the crap of ‘stored knowledge’ in your subconscious mind. Your personality has absolutely nothing to do with you – there’s a wealth of psychological research amassed over the last seven decades that proves this.

So here’s the deal. You can only take truly appropriate action (rather than normal reaction) by deliberately side-stepping your ego or personality – this is the essence of personal development (as distinct from personality development). You will not be able to do that until you realize that all inappropriate action comes from that source. What’s done is done – if damage was done, go and undo it. But you only damaged your own self-image, then, get forget it, it’s past, you need to get on with your life – starting right now.

Clearing Your Mind For Happiness

Are you happy with your life or, indeed, with yourself? In all probability that there are things that you would like to change about both you and your life – I’ve rarely come across anybody who is unconditionally happy. Of course, people often imagine that if they improve themselves, get fit, buy a new car, go on a great holiday that, then, they’ll be happy. That kind of ‘happy’, however, is fleeting and superficial. Real happiness should be lasting and not based on having this or doing that.

The only place that you discover happiness is within. Sadly, that is a foreign country to the vast majority of people[spin] because the normal person’s ‘within’ is [spin]hidden from them by what psychologists call ‘The Sentry’, a defence mechanism that we’ve all got which prevents other people getting into our heads to brainwash us. Unfortunately, this ‘Sentry’ keeps us out too! For a very good reason – or, at least, it appears reasonable until you venture a closer look at how we operate – our beliefs about how the world works and ourselves are stored in our subconscious. You wouldn’t want to go messing with those, would you? Or would you? Because most of us believe that we’re inadequate at least in some way, most of us aren’t 100% happy with who we are. That’s because our beliefs aren’t grounded in fact but on an accumulation of what might be called the programming or conditioning that we were subject to during what is generally described as our formative years. This programming or conditioning is both the source of your unease with yourself and, just as importantly, everything that you believe to be wrong with your life currently.

Our reality is created from beliefs – it is our own personal beliefs that automatically dictate our behaviour, our actions, our reactions and our interactions with others. It is through this process that we, ourselves, create our version of reality. What’s going on in your head, at the deepest subconscious level, literally creates your life. And it’s not real, it’s concocted from what others did to us or for us during those formative years. So of course you’d want to go messing with your beliefs, because normal beliefs hold normal people back.

You’ve got to go beyond your beliefs. You must get to the inner real you, to find true happiness – that is where you’ll unearth a you that is unstained by the crap of normal conditioning, unspoilt by all the beliefs that mess up our normal lives – crazy beliefs that keep us in our place – like we should know our place, like you’ve got to work hard to be a success, like pain is never far behind pleasure, that pride comes before a fall – prepare your own list.

Forget that nonsense. Indeed, forget about who you thought you were and discover who you really are – and the life that you can really have. Your mind’s obsessed with the normal crap – stop it. I offer my clients various forms of ‘mental calming measures’ – meditation if you will – you’ve got to calm down, wake up and see the light. Only then you will find true happiness.

Do You Suffer From Nerves, Worry, Stress?

Are you feeling anxious or tense? Are you a worrier? Ever feel nervous? Do you get easily annoyed? Do you get stressed out? If you perceive yourself to be suffering from any of these problems, then you’ve let your mind play tricks on you. The inner you cannot be anxious, nervous, stressed or uncertain. The real you is simply not capable of being stressed or anxious. All these afflications are symptoms of an over-active personality – when you feel any of these symptoms, it’s only your personality tripping you up.

What you must realize is that your personality – from the Latin persona, which means mask – is just a mask that not only conceals the real you from everybody else, it has you completely fooled into thinking that it is, in fact, who you are. But, psychology tells us that your personality is a series of photographs of events and people that impressed you during your childhood – what we normally call our formative years. You snapped photos of these things because they were important enough to make you feel good or bad about yourself at the time. Unfortunately, psychology also confirms that the normal person is much more disposed to dwell on the negative rather than the positive snapshots.

Your subconscious mind is even still obsessed with those snapshots and it is this obsession that gives life to your personality. Basically, your personality isn’t real – it may well have got you to where you are and you may really like it – but be careful you don’t fall in love with an illusion.

To rid your life of the problems from which only your illusory personality can suffer – worry, stress, anxiety, self-doubt, fear, loneliness – you’re going to have to move beyond that personality, your perceived weaknesses and strengths. You’ve to go in search of the inner you because not only does the real you not comprehend worry, stress, doubt, not only is the inner you fearless, the real you is capable of achieving effortless happiness and success. The great thing is that you won’t have to look to hard to find the inner you – it’s crying out to be uncovered. You will discover the real you in the peace of a reflective moment, in the experience of one of those wonderful “natural high” moments that we experience at some point in our lives – where peace and happiness reign.

However, you don’t want or need to wait for the next peak moment to get over the illusions of stress and worry. You can do that right now by indulging in a little meditation. When you meditate you begin to appreciate that stress, tension and fear are simply self-destructive thoughts and that a clear and focused mind (the real you) simply has not time for that kind of nonsense – it has far more pressing work to do.
