Five Techniques to Help You Realise and Fulfil Your Goals in Life

POWERFUL techniques to achieving and fulfilling ANY goal you set.

It is nearly 2011 and many of us are no doubt asking where 2010 went? Did you set goals or resolutions at the beginning of the year; did you achieve them? Either way now is the time to cast aside the old year and prepare for the new, to take stock of what we have learned and set new goals and challenges for 2011 and beyond. There are three areas that need to be considered in any goal setting exercise, those for your health and fitness, your wealth and prosperity including physical, mental, spiritual and intellectual; your wealth and prosperity including your career aspirations, hobbies and interests including travel and exploration and finally your friendships and relationships.

Did you know that 'Goal Setting' is the secret to fulfilling ANY dream or desire you want in life? Did you also know that SUPER Successful people used 'Goals' to attain the knowledge and wealth they have today?

The reason most people find it difficult to achieve their goals is simple; it is because they've set their long term goals before setting any short term ones, or necessary steps on the wider picture pathway. They just didn't plan their goals out carefully.

Goal setting strategies are VERY important, especially for those who are determined and focused on achievement of any long term goals.

I'm going to share with you five 'Goal Setting' techniques that will help you realize any life goals any time. As you read and note remember to keep an open mind, with that said, let’s go to technique #1.

#1. Start with Short Term goals.

Sometimes, people start with short-term goals unconsciously.

Why unconsciously? They may have considered the goals to be long-term at the time they were planned; after achieving the goal, it was realised that they were in fact taking a longer term perspective.

Whilst content with realisation of the short term goal, after a while it is realised that attaining longer-term ones is necessary to complete the required objective.

Short-term goals are mostly the stepping stones that, as each is achieved, bring us closer to realisation of the long term goal. Most importantly and the key to this lesson is that achievement also motivates you to plan for and strive towards the longer goals whilst enjoying success and reward in the process.

#2. Make sure you really want the goal and know why you want it.

By this, you have to ask yourself: "Do I really need this goal and will its achievement improve my life and take me closer to my destination?"

Answering this ONE question will give you so much more passion and motivation to achieve your goal. Some people will look to their past to find out the Why and How of the goal they have set. So in summary for each goal also know the why and that the achievement is really what you want.

#3. Speak up.

What I mean by this is you shouldn't keep your goals to yourself. Sharing your goals with other people will help you get the support you may need in order to persevere and keep on track. One problem that usually occurs though is that some people are just too shy to tell others about their goals for reasons such as being afraid of non achievement, or they simply lack the courage to speak their minds.

We will cover the lack of self knowledge and low self esteem in future posts. Just know that they are both enemies to goal achievement and are not good habits. When the time comes and you really need their support, you will have a far more difficult time asking for and getting it.

Don’t keep your goals and objectives to yourself; sharing them with close friends can assist both parties with motivation making their achievement more satisfying and their pursuit more enjoyable.

#4. Write down your goals.

This strategy is critical and more so for those with a long list of goals.

Write all goals down in as much detail as you can, it is also advisable to review them on a daily to weekly basis. This will encourage and motivate you to achieving them, plus, and importantly will keep the vision of your goal and the feeling of achievement vibrant and alive. The more detail you place in the description of your goals the more impact this will have on your sub conscious and the more you will be guided towards their achievement.

#5. Stay on track and never give up.

Review notes will help open your mind and keep you on the right track. While on track, you will face challenges and distractions. Keep a diary in which all your goals are written out and detailed as above. Note the distractions and challenges and the steps you took to overcome them. Note also where you needed to change the short term goals as circumstances changed. All of this only helps keep you focused on the bigger picture and keeps your forward momentum. Remember that life is not static; we are part of an evolving and vibrant universe. Go with the flow and learn to trust your intuition. If you need to make small or short term adjustments make them. You will be closer to your goal just taking a different but more appropriate route.

You might suddenly feel depressed after finding out that you are going the wrong way towards achieving your goal. Thus this might lead to abandoning the goal. Never be discouraged. Facing obstacles is a test on how passionate you are in realizing the goals.

Just follow the simple techniques I have outlined here and you will start to realise how easy it is to stay on track and experience achievement.

One last tip: Take five minutes each and every morning and form a clear visual picture in your mind of you having already fulfilled each of your goals. What it tastes like, smells like and looks like and how great the sense of achievement makes you feel inside.
